Executive Director
Bernie is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) and Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC). He has 15 years experience working with at-risk youth. Bernie has the following outdoor experience:
- trip leader for 8 day wilderness trips (canoe and backpacking) with Big City Mountaineers
- licensed professional white-water rafting guide with ARTA River Trips
- American Canoe Association Instructor
- Rock Climbing Guide
- He has a Wilderness First Responder medical certification.
Bernie also has a passion for bicycling. He has ridden over 20,000 miles and likes to share his love of bicycling with youth.
Bernie had a career as an engineer, manager and project manager at Motorola. Bernie developed his management and leadership skills while at Motorola. In 2006, he gave up that career to earn his Master's in Community Counseling and focus on youth work. In 2008, Bernie became the Executive Director of Chicago Voyagers.
Bernie believes in the potential of all youth. Working for Chicago Voyagers combines his love of the outdoors with his commitment to growing youth and helping them on their life journey.
